What is Food & Futures?

Food & Futures is V-Aid’s flagship humanitarian programme, bringing together people from a wide range of backgrounds to produce nutritious, long-life emergency meals for charities supporting people facing hardship across South Wales.

At the heart of the programme is a simple belief: everyone has something valuable to contribute. By creating opportunities to serve others, we help people build confidence, develop practical skills, form new friendships and discover a renewed sense of purpose, while providing immediate support to those in crisis.

A Different Way of Helping

By bringing together veterans, displaced people seeking safety, people rebuilding their lives after involvement with the criminal justice system and community volunteers around a shared humanitarian purpose, we create opportunities for people to contribute, rebuild confidence and develop practical skills while making a genuine difference to others.

Rather than defining people by the challenges they face, we focus on the strengths, experience and potential they bring. Every participant has something valuable to contribute, and every meal produced is a reminder that helping others can also transform our own lives.

How It Works

Every Food & Futures session is built around a shared humanitarian purpose.

Volunteers from different backgrounds work side by side to prepare, blend, package and label nutritious, long-life emergency meals in a safe, supportive and inclusive environment.

The meals are then distributed through trusted charities and community organisations supporting people facing food insecurity, homelessness, financial hardship and other crises across South Wales.

Along the way, volunteers develop confidence, practical skills, teamwork and friendships while knowing that every meal they produce will make a genuine difference to someone else’s life.

The Meals We Produce

Food & Futures produces a range of nutritious, long-life emergency meals designed for people experiencing crisis. Every meal is easy to prepare, has a long shelf life and is distributed free of charge through trusted charities and community organisations across South Wales.

Our range continues to develop in response to feedback from the organisations we support, ensuring meals remain practical, nutritious and suitable for people with limited cooking facilities.

Every meal is produced with care by volunteers and distributed free of charge through our charity partners, ensuring practical support reaches people when they need it most.

More Than a Meal

Every meal represents far more than nutrition. It represents time, care, compassion and the belief that everyone has something worthwhile to contribute.

For the person receiving the meal, it provides comfort and practical support during a difficult time.

For the volunteer who helped produce it, it provides confidence, purpose, new skills and the knowledge that their efforts have made a genuine difference to someone else’s life.

Food & Futures is built on the belief that helping others can also help transform ourselves.

Our Impact

Food & Futures is about more than producing emergency meals.

Every meal provides immediate support to someone facing hardship, while every volunteering session creates an opportunity for someone to build confidence, develop practical skills and contribute to their community.

Our volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds, including veterans, displaced people seeking safety, probation participants and community volunteers. By working together towards a shared humanitarian purpose, they gain experience, friendship and a renewed sense of purpose while making a genuine difference to others.

The meals are distributed through trusted charities and community organisations across South Wales, ensuring support reaches people with dignity, compassion and respect.

Food & Futures is built on the belief that helping others can also help transform ourselves.
